Peer Review Process

Peer Review Process

All manuscripts submitted to the Journal of Indonesian Elementary Education (JIEE) undergo a rigorous and systematic peer-review process to ensure academic quality, methodological soundness, and scholarly contribution. JIEE applies a double-blind peer review system in which both authors and reviewers remain anonymous throughout the review process.

The review process generally takes 4–8 weeks, depending on reviewer availability and the extent of revisions required. JIEE reserves the right to reject manuscripts that fail to meet academic, ethical, or technical standards at any stage of the evaluation process.

The peer-review process at JIEE consists of the following stages:

1. Manuscript Submission

Authors submit manuscripts through the official online submission system (Open Journal Systems/OJS). Submissions sent via email are not accepted.

2. Initial Editorial Screening

The Editorial Office conducts a preliminary evaluation to ensure that the manuscript:

  • Fits the journal’s focus and scope
  • Complies with author guidelines and formatting requirements
  • Meets minimum standards of academic writing and methodological clarity

Manuscripts are also screened using plagiarism detection software. JIEE applies a maximum similarity index of 20% excluding references and properly cited quotations.

3. Editor-in-Chief Assessment

The Editor-in-Chief evaluates the manuscript’s originality, scholarly contribution, and relevance to the field of education. Manuscripts that do not meet these criteria may be rejected without external review (desk rejection).

4. Reviewer Assignment

Manuscripts that pass the preliminary evaluation are assigned to at least two independent reviewers with relevant expertise and no conflicts of interest.

5. Double-Blind Review Process

Reviewers evaluate manuscripts based on:

  • Originality and contribution to knowledge
  • Theoretical framework
  • Research design and methodology
  • Data analysis and interpretation
  • Clarity of presentation
  • Relevance to educational research

Reviewers provide one of the following recommendations:

  • Accept without revision
  • Minor revision
  • Major revision
  • Reject

6. Editorial Decision

The handling editor and Editor-in-Chief review the evaluation reports and determine the editorial decision. If reviewer recommendations differ significantly, an additional reviewer may be assigned.

7. Decision Notification

The corresponding author receives an official decision letter accompanied by anonymized reviewer comments. Authors must submit a detailed response when revisions are requested.

8. Revision and Re-Review

Revised manuscripts must be resubmitted within the specified timeframe. Major revisions may undergo an additional round of review by the original reviewers, while minor revisions may be evaluated directly by the editor.

9. Final Acceptance and Publication

Accepted manuscripts proceed to copyediting, layout editing, and proofreading before publication. The final version is published online and made openly accessible in accordance with the journal’s publication policy.
